David Faulkner - President
MD, NWN Media Ltd
Club
I have been a member of the Chester Business Club since 1992. I have served on the Executive Council and subsequently as Vice-Chairman, Chairman, Past Chairman and Vice-President and was elected President in 2008.
My wife Maureen and I are staunch supporters of the club’s social events, and I have always actively promoted the club as the business voice in Chester in the local community. I have served on numerous committees including City Centre Management, Chester Business Leadership Forum, Resource & Performance, Transport & Access and Marketing Groups, and was a Board Member of CEWTEC and a Director of Chester and Ellesmere Port Enterprise Agency.
I was Chairman of the Chester Economic Development Task Group, a group formed in conjunction with Chester City and Cheshire County Council, comprising of key individuals who represented vital aspects of the economy in various sectors and communities – a forerunner of the present day partnership initiatives.
Work
I am a highly experienced (and successful!) newspaper executive, beginning my career with the Thomson Newspaper organisation as a trainee executive in the mid 70’s. I moved to Chester in the early 90’s as Managing Director of Trinity Mirror Newspapers for Cheshire and North Wales. After a spell in the Midlands, I took over as Managing Director of NWN Media Ltd (one of the largest privately owned media groups in the country) three years ago.
My work ethic has always been to make work as much fun and competitive as possible but not winning at all costs.
Life
Maureen and I have lived in Curzon Park for 20 years. We are both keen golfers – members of Curzon Park and Carden Park Clubs – although I will be the first to admit Maureen is the better golfer. Married for over 30 years we have two sons who were educated at Kings School and both graduated from Cambridge University. Both have developed into solid citizens with very different but worthwhile careers.
